Home Remedies for Acne

Acne-prone skin can be a teenager's nightmare and the acne can actually carry on well into adulthood. The appearance of the unsightly pimples can actually mar the mood especially if they appear on your special day. There are several home remedies for acne treatment which can effectively get rid of acne and acne scars. These remedies need to be used with care to prevent mistakes and improve their efficacy.

1. Home facial pack

An oatmeal facial pack can be made by cooking oatmeal in water. After cooling the oatmeal, it can be used as an acne removal pack. This needs to be applied on the entire face and neck areas and left on until it is dry. A facial pack can also be made using egg whites. This is effective in removing oil and making the face less oily.

Special care needed while using home facial packs: Be careful not to use warm or hot oatmeal on the face. Be sure to wash off the face well after the pack dries. If using an egg white pack, beat the egg whites until stiff before applying.

2. Steaming the face

Steaming the face can be an easy way to clear up acne. The steam helps to unblock the pores and prevent the acne from forming. The best way is to boil water in a flat pot and keep the pot on a flat surface. After that, drape a towel over your head to confine the steam and allow the steam to settle as vapor on your face.

Care needed while steaming: The face should not be kept too close to the water pot as this could cause scalding of the skin. This method should be done only twice a week and not repeated more than that.

3. Use of natural oils

Certain natural oils like tea tree, chamomile, lavender and mint are used to remove acne effectively. These oils kill the bacteria that cause acne and also prevent a recurrence of acne.
Care to be taken with natural oils: Apart from tea tree oil which can be applied directly, it is advisable not to use the other oils directly on the skin to prevent skin darkening. It would be a good idea to mix these natural oils with almond oil and then apply on the affected areas.

4. Baking powder treatment

Baking powder can help reduce acne really fast. This needs to be applied and then washed away to leave a clear skin that is devoid of oil.

Care to be taken while using baking soda: It is advisable to use food grade baking soda only. This should not be used raw but should be taken on a wet cloth and then dabbed gently on the skin. The skin should not be scrubbed as this will leave marks on the skin.

Home remedies for acne treatment are very effective and one can have acne-free skin with regular use of these natural remedies. These remedies do not have any side effects but need to be used with care.
